All rooms are comfortable and
uniquely furnished; some with the gnarled trunk of a tree providing a
natural centerpiece, and others overlooking the waterhole. Guest rooms share the
bathroom facilities located on the hallways. The open fronted dining room allows unrestricted game and bird
viewing at all times. An elevated walkway extending well into the forest
gives peace-seeking visitors, a few rare moments alone with nature. |

Access to Shimba for your Kenya safari is an adventure in itself. Arriving at the Shimba Hills Reserve’s gate, guests are transferred to safari cruisers, and accompanied by the resident naturalist to the lodge. The last few hundred meters are covered on foot, stepping cautiously in the footprints of elephant, marveling at festoons of lichen and giant ferns, and in the same hues of the colorful forest birds, rare and exotic orchids. Those not wishing to walk to Shimba can be directly transferred to the lodge. |

Excitement does not end at the lodge during your African safari at Shimba. Shimba is one of the few places at a national reserve in Kenya where guests can experience the wilderness on foot. Accompanied by an armed guide, there are walks to Marere Dam, Cycad Forest and a shower at Sheldrick Falls. Early morning and evening game drives in safari cruisers are available; the Shimba sundowner excursion, with views well into neighbouring Tanzania is a must. Do make sure you allow enough time to make the most of this unique sanctuary, and this exceptional lodge. |
